Corporate Perks: Take Advantage of Company Discount Programs

Many companies enter into affiliations with retailers in order to provide their employees with discounts. This helps the retailer, who gets access to the company’s employees as potential new customers; the company, who can now pass on another benefit to its employees; and the employees, who reap the benefit of these discounts. I’ve used several of these discount programs to save money, and they can be a valuable benefit.

My company has agreements with several merchants. These range from national discount programs for cell phones (AT&T, Verizon), computers (Hewlett-Packard), and automobiles (GM, Chrysler), to local discounts at restaurants, child care providers, and wholesale clubs. The discounts are varied, but nothing to sneeze at either - the HP discount is 15%, and the Chrysler is $1,000 to $2,000. The local discounts include special membership rates for the wholesale club, and hotel and restaurant discounts.

I’m currently taking advantage of a wireless discount, saving $9.00 per month. My local appliance dealer also gave me a discount on my new clothes dryer. When the time comes for a new computer, I’ll check out the deals to see if I can save some more dough.

What type of discount programs does your employer offer?
