11 Ideas for New Income Streams

I read an article at Kiplinger.com entitled 11 Ways to Get Extra Cash.  I’m always looking for new income streams, so here’s my take on the suggestions:

1. Sell your stuff online

So far, I’ve only bought stuff online.  I’m not big on garage sales, but maybe I should try to move some unwanted stuff on Craigslist or Ebay.

2. Be a shopping spy

I don’t like shopping to begin with, so I don’t think this would be an option for me.

3. Operate a call center from your home

I don’t love talking on the phone, either, especially to irate strangers.  Scratch this one off the list, too.

4. Tutor students

Ah, something that I do have experience with.  I tutored a few classmates in college, so this one could work.  It would depend on the subject, though.  I’m kind of rusty in Science (just ask my kids).

5. Join a street sales team

I could be dead wrong, but I think people would prefer a clean-cut, enthusiastic young person over me.  I look more like a barbarian than I do Joe College.

6. Take rover for a walk

I love dogs, but this would interfere with my day job.  I can get my exercise elsewhere, and not have to clean up dog crap.

7. Be a babysitter

I’ve helped raise two kids.  They’re not serial killers.  I’ve done my part for society.  Other people think their kids are just precious.  I prefer to live in the real world.  Therein lies the rub.  Next question.

8. Write for the web

We have a winner!  I started this blog just over 2 months ago, and I strive to improve it each day.  How am I doing?

9. Make your hobbies pay off

Let’s see, I’m a lousy golfer, so no luck there.  Unless I can get paid for watching the Yankees or smoking cigars, I think I’ll keep my hobbies for myself.

10. Sell your unwanted gold jewelry

I’m not a jewelry kind of guy.  The only things that I have are my wedding ring and a watch, so no luck there.

11. Adjust your tax withholding

I’ve done this regularly in order to avoid a big tax discepancy.  This is a tip that everyone should follow.

How about it?  Is this list all-encompassing, or do you have any to add?

Yeah - that list seems useless for most people except #8 and #11 as you mention. BTW - You are doing a great job with #8. Keep up the good work.

All of my extra cash right now is coming from #8 through various sources.

Thanks for the encouragement! I’ve read every post on your blog. It’s a daily routine for me.

Number eight is the only one that is working for me lately. eHow and Infobarrel are doing rather well so far. I signed up for a new site yesterday called FireHow (a complete eHow rip off - but whatever).

I wish I could get paid to play golf, but I tend to spend more times in the woods than I do on the greens.

I think I’d have a better chance of being paid NOT to play golf. I can’t wait for the weather to clear so I can show off my lousy golf game.
